People were encouraged to hunt down the large toads and bring them to festivals called "Toad Day Out."
There, with families sipping cold drinks and eating sausages, the toads were euthanized.
Prizes were given for the biggest.
Even the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals approved, as long as the toads were killed humanely.
Sugarcane farmers have been battling these toads for years.
Cane toads are not native to Australia and can get up to eight-inches long.
"Toad Day Out" could become a regular event until the pests disappear.
