Police say, during the search warrant, they found the couple's seven-year-old son playing an Xbox video game system, while sitting directly next to 403 bags of heroin.
Investigators say, for the past week, officers received complaints of open-air drug sales, loitering and prostitution at the Haverford and Woodfield Apartments in New Castle. During the investigation, police stopped several people who had just purchased heroin.
On Monday, police stopped Samuel Padilla as he was leaving his apartment. He was found to have 13 bags of heroin. Police then obtained a search warrant, and found the 403 bags of heroin inside.
They also found $3,235 in suspected drug proceeds.
Samuel and Madeline Padilla were both arrested and charged with trafficking heroin, possession with the intent to deliver heroin, maintaining a dwelling for keeping a controlled substance and unlawful dealing with a child.
Samuel was arraigned and committed to the Howard Young Prison after failing to post a $70,000 secured bail. Madeline was released on $20,000 bail.
