Arrest in Wilmington street robberies

WILMINGTON, Del. - March 30, 2009 - The suspect's name has not yet been released.

In the first incident, police say a 21-year-old Wilmington woman was approached from behind by the female suspect around 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25th.

The victim says the suspect placed an object against her back, implying she had a weapon. The suspect took the victim's wallet, purse, and cell phone. The victim was not hurt.

The suspect is described as a black female, 25-30 years old, 5'3" tall and wearing sunglasses.

On Thursday, March 26th, police say a 39-year-old Wilmington woman was exiting her parked car shortly before 8:00 a.m in the 100 block of West 6th Street, when a the suspect ran up to her and tried to take her purse.

The two struggled, and the victim was cut on the chin by the suspect, who was wielding a box cutter. During the robbery, the victim says the suspect was accompanied by a little girl, about 8 or 9 years old, who told the victim "just give her the money." The suspect then took the purse, and the suspect and girl fled the scene.

The description of the suspect was similar in this case. The little girl was described as wearing a knitted school uniform, and had a black cast on her foot.

On Saturday, March 28th, police responded to the 200 block of Water Street at about 2:15 p.m. There, they say a 28-year-old Philadelphia woman said that she was getting out of her car and was approached by a woman, who said "What if I told you I had a knife?"

Then, police say, the suspect produced a knife and demanded the victim's wallet. The suspect then implied that she had a handgun in her purse, but none was displayed. The victim complied and the suspect fled. The victim's wallet was discovered in the restroom of business in the 200 block of N. Market Street.

Video surveillance cameras captured the suspect.
