Camden building owner promises improvements

CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) - April 1, 2009 Ephraim Hasenfeld says he's negotiating with the city's police to patrol the Northgate I building and is planning a picture ID system to track who lives in the 321 apartments.

Camden County freeholders on Monday asked the U.S. Attorney's office to investigate. Officials said apartment managers cooperate with drug dealers, sublease the homes of senior citizens who are hospitalized and give young women apartments in exchange for sex.

Hasenfeld denied those claims, but acknowledges that drugs are a problem in the building near the Ben Franklin Bridge.
