It's the outlet for Le Bus, the artisan bakery that sells its bread, rolls, bagels and pastries to dozens of upscale restaurants and markets in our area.
LeBus owner David Braverman explains what goes into the Outlet for sale.
"It's a little bit more of an art than a science, so we get overruns or products that don't come out exactly right -- too big or too small or something -- that we can't sell to our customers. Some of them are imperfect and some of them are great, so they come to the store."
The items on sale at Le Bus are NOT day-old. They're baked that morning and priced to sell.
Discounts start around 30%, but can be much higher if the bakery has a larger-than-expected overrun, or an expected order is canceled.
The day we were there, bagels were three for a dollar, dinner rolls were five or six for a dollar and giant restaurant-sized loaves of bread were five to seven dollars each.
The LeBus Outlet is located at 479 Shoemaker Road in King of Prussia, Pa. To access their website, click here.
Larger bakeries including Wonder, Entenmann's and Pepperidge Farm also have bakery thrift stores. Those companies wouldn't let our cameras in their stores, but we did find some good deals.
For example, at the Wonder Bread-Hostess Outlet in Northeast Philadelphia, we found classic white bread for $1 a loaf or three for $2.85. And Hostess family packs were priced at two for $4.69. To locate a Wonder Bread-Hostess outlet near you, click here.
At the Entenmann's Outlet in Exton (690 E. Lincoln Highway), we found Maier's, Stroehmann, and Freihofer's breads, along with Thomas' muffins for 50% off retail and Arnold's bread for $.99 a loaf. To find the Entenmann's Outlet closer to you, click here.
