Joan Lunden says she's glad to bring upbeat news to television with "Hometown Heroes," beginning its second season this weekend. The 10-part series, airing 9 a.m. EDT Sundays on DirecTV's 101 Network, highlights those who are helping others and making contributions to their community, said Lunden, who returns as host.

Lunden says "Hometown Heroes" leaves viewers with the feeling "that the world is a better place."

Among those featured are Eva Payne of Fremont, Neb., founder of a camp for youngsters infected or affected by HIV or AIDS; Karen Shirk of Xenia, Ohio, who started a group that trains dogs to help people with disabilities, and Don Harper of Orange, Calif., who created a program to bring the arts to hospitalized children.
