Child drowns in New Jersey pool

SPRINGFIELD TWP., N.J. - April 5, 2009 - Police say medics were called out to the 1200 block of Old York Road around 4:00 p.m. for a report of a drowning.

According to investigators, a father was watching his one and three year old children when he heard screaming coming from the back yard.

He found that a one-year-old and the three-year-old had fallen into an inground pool.

The one-year-old was screaming, while the three-year-old was face down.

Police say the father pulled both children out of the pool, and gave the three-year-old CPR.

Medics airlifted the three-year-old to Cooper University Hospital, while the one-year-old was taken by ambulance.

The younger child is expected to be fine, but the older child died at the hospital.

State police are investigating.

The names of those involved have not been released.
