Redmond O'Neal faces drug charge, arraignment

LOS ANGELES (AP) - April 7, 2009

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's office said Redmond O'Neal is scheduled to be arraigned later Tuesday.

Authorities suspect the 24-year-old was carrying heroin when he was arrested Sunday at a jail facility in Castaic, north of Los Angeles.

His attorney did not immediately return a phone message Tuesday morning.

It is the most recent in a string of drug-related arrests for O'Neal, who remains in custody. Prosecutors are seeking to hold him on $50,000 bail.

Redmond O'Neal and his father were arrested last year at the actor's Malibu home after deputies said they found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia during a search. Redmond O'Neal was on probation for a previous drug conviction and has pleaded not guilty in that case.

Ryan O'Neal pleaded guilty in the case and was ordered into an 18-month drug diversion program. He was nominated for a best actor Academy Award for 1970's "Love Story."

Fawcett is recovering from complications from a medical procedure to treat anal cancer that has spread to her liver.
