The man is listed in stable condition Wednesday at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania with a bullet wound to the stomach.
Authorities say neighbors called police around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday reporting that the 42-year-old man was in his yard, acting erratically while in the nude. One neighbor said the man had thrown venetian blinds out his front door.
Officers tried unsuccessfully to subdue the man by using pepper spray. Eyewitnesses told reporters the man then attempted to grab one officer's gun. Police say another officer fired once at the man.
At least one officer was taken to the hospital to be treated for a reaction to the spray.
