A man was shot and wounded by police officers in the Cobbs Creek section of Philadelphia on Monday afternoon.Police say officers were called to a report of a person with a gun around 2:00 p.m. at the intersection of Cobbs Creek Parkway and Catherine Streets.

There, investigators say, they saw a man firing a gun. The officers asked him to drop his weapon, and the man pointed his gun at them.

Then, police say, he jumped down an embankment, while still pointing the gun at the officers.

That's when police fired their weapons, striking the man once in the side. He was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in critical condition.

Police say they obtained a gun and a suicide note at the scene.

There have been no reported injuries to police.
