WASHINGTON - April 16, 2009
Interviewed as she toured the troubled U.S.-Mexican border in
advance of President Barack Obama's visit to Mexico, Napolitano was
asked about a part of the internal report suggesting that some U.S. military veterans could turn to such extremist activities.
Napolitano responded in an interview on CBS's "The Early Show"
Thursday by saying the intelligence findings from Homeland Security
"are not accusations, they are assessments." She described the
conclusions as giving state and local law enforcement authorities a
"situational awareness" of potential threats during troubled
economic times.
