3 charter schools approved in Del.

DOVER, Del. - April 17, 2009 - The board approved charters on Thursday for the Delaware Academy for Public Safety and Security, Reach Academy for Girls and Las Americas Aspira Academy.

They are expected to open in fall 2010. They'll be the first schools to open since a moratorium on new charters ended earlier this year.

Delaware Academy for Public Safety and Security is targeted at educating at-risk students to become first responders. Reach Academy for Girls will be the state's first all-girls public school. Las Americas Aspira Academy has a dual-language immersion K-8 program aimed at New Castle County's Hispanic population.
