Congressman backs homeowner's assistance act

CITY HALL - April 17, 2009 Congressman Chaka Fattah introduced new federal legislation today that would curb the number of properties placed in foreclosure.

The bill, called the Homeowners' Emergency Mortgage Act or HEMA, was introduced in City Hall where hundreds have had their homes saved.

It would establish a program to help local homeowners who are in danger of losing their homes.

Homeowners who are at least two months delinquent on mortgage payments and are facing foreclosure would be eligible to receive federal assistance.
