Phillies and Padres rained out

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - April 20, 2009 "We definitely thank the Phillies for taking that into consideration," Padres second baseman David Eckstein said. "It looked like it was going to be a miserable night out there and there really wasn't even a chance to play tonight. It gives us the opportunity to get to San Francisco at a reasonable hour as opposed to waiting around and canceling it anyway."

The Padres won the first two games of the weekend series, but Raul Ibanez's two-run homer in the ninth inning Sunday gave Philadelphia a dramatic 5-4 victory.

The Phillies' rotation remains the same, with Jamie Moyer starting Tuesday against the Milwaukee Brewers. Joe Blanton and Cole Hamels will finish up the three-game series on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.

The Padres will skip right-hander Kevin Correia - Monday's scheduled starter - and begin their season against the San Francisco Giants with ace Jake Peavy, then Chris Young.

It was unclear when the rainout would be made up. San Diego hosts the Phillies for a three-game series in June but isn't scheduled to return to Philadelphia this year.

Both teams are off May 11 and July 23, and those dates have been mentioned as possibilities. San Diego would be in the middle of a Houston-Chicago swing on May 11, while a July 23 date would come before a trip to Washington. and Cincinnati. The Phillies would be in the middle of a homestand each time.
