Child on bike struck by bus

CAMDEN, N.J. - April 27, 2009 - It happened around 4:15 p.m. at the intersection of Haddon Avenue and Cooper Street.

Police say a 17-year-old boy was riding on a bike, with an 8-year-old boy sitting on the handlebars.

The bike allegedly darted in front of a New Jersey Transit bus and was struck, trapping the 8-year-old underneath.

He was then trapped under the bus until he could be freed by rescuers.

That child is in extremely critical condition at Cooper Trauma.

Police say the 17-year-old managed to get up after being hit, then fled the scene. Police are now looking for that teen.

Investigators have not released his name.
