Sick woman negative for swine flu

PHILADELPHIA - April 28, 2009 Methodist Hospital in Philadelphia says those test results came back negative late Tuesday afternoon.

24-year-old Rachel Roberts from Ontario was taken to Methodist Hospital after her flight from Mexico landed about 4 p.m. Monday at Philadelphia International Airport. She had complained of flu-like symptoms.

Mexico has been the nation hardest hit by the swine flu outbreak.

She was placed in isolation at the hospital.

Action News also learned Roberts' boyfriend, who travelled with her to Mexico, was also showing possible symptoms. He was being monitored at Methodist Hospital.

However, since Roberts tested negative for swine flu, her boyfriend will not be tested for the disease.

As soon as Roberts is feeling better, she will be allowed to go home to Canada.

The airliner - US Airways Flight 804 - had approximately 180 people aboard. Passengers said they were given forms from the CDC to fill out so that officials would be able to contact them.

However, since Roberts tested negative for swine flu, her fellow passengers are now in the clear.

Action News spoke with Roberts in her hospital room Tuesday morning, but she said she did not want to comment on this situation.
