9 Princeton students have whooping cough

PRINCETON, N.J. (AP) - April 29, 2009 Nine students came down with pertussis between March 28 and April 25.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says pertussis typically begins with cold-like symptoms that progress to a stage of rapid coughing. The illness is named for the "whoop" sound following the series of coughs.

Princeton says not all of its students received the booster shot for the pertussis vaccination.
