High school athlete dies during track practice

EDISON, N.J. (AP) - May 1, 2009 Principal Sal Mistretta says Kittim Sherrod and the track team were warming up with a run through town when Sherrod collapsed Thursday.

The principal says team members flagged down a car and took the 6-foot-1, 170-pound senior to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The cause of death isn't known.

Sherrod played wide receiver, defensive back and punt returner for the high school's football team.
