NJ lifts ban on Sunday bow hunting

TRENTON, N.J. - May 4, 2009 - The measure signed Monday changes a New Jersey law that once banned all hunting on Sunday. It was originally enacted in 1903, but has been revised over the years to allow for some.

Under the new law, licensed bow hunters are now permitted to hunt deer on Sundays on private property or on state wildlife management lands during deer season.

The bill's sponsors, Republican Assemblywoman Alison Littell McHose and Assemblyman Gary Chiusano, both represent largely rural areas of Hunterdon, Morris and Sussex counties.

They say the measure will be helpful in efforts to control New Jersey's burgeoning deer population.
