Police crack down on 'blocking the box'

May 11, 2009 6:14:01 AM PDT
Police are cracking down on drivers who break the rules by "blocking the box" today. Officers have been stationed at key intersection in Center City to ensure vehicles are not in the box when the light changes to red.

There are signs warning motorists, but Philadelphia police and the Parking Authority felt this reminder was needed.

Violators will receive a $119 ticket.

In addition, the Parking Authority will be towing cars that are double parked in an effort to free up loading zones for delivery vehicles.

Police officers will be stationed on key corridors in Center City to enforce the "don't block the box" laws and red light running through the day.
