Motorcycle vs. police van

SOUTHWEST PHILADELPHIA - May 11, 2009 The mangled remains of the motorcycle testify to the force of impact. The driver, 22-year-old Sean King, literally slammed right into the side of this police van. The van had been racing to assist other officers involved in a foot chase.

"From what I was told the police wagon had the green light but they were still responding lights and sirens to the call", said Sgt. Nashid Akil.

But witnesses tell a different story.

"He got onto his bike he had the green light and the police van is down the street it ran the light it didn't have any sirens on and it didn't stop or pause and they collided," said Brittany Logan.

The dents on the van tell the story, the dent in the middle is where they say the motorcycle hit, and the dent higher up on the rear panel is where King hit.

"His face hit the van head on and he fell onto the trolley tracks," said Brittany.

King was taken to the hospital with a severely broken leg and other injuries and he's also under arrest. It turns out the motorcycle was stolen In Virginia. The police in the meantime promise a complete investigation.

"It is our policy that anytime a police officer is involved in an accident that accident investigation team comes out and checks everything and we're keeping all the witnesses here to be interviewed and they gather all the information and determines who is at fault," said Sgt. Akil.
