They're taking the wraps off a dramatic urban development project in the depth of the recession."I think it's a game changer. I think it's something that's going to change the way projects are designed."

It's called the Piazza at Schmidts, a development that mixes modern architecture with Roman influence.

The 80,000 square foot plaza is surrounded by 3 apartment buildings complete with restaurants, art boutiques, and a giant LED screen.

"A walkable community and that's what I've tried to create a walkable community with a European flair with grand public spaces."

This has been Bart Blatstein's of Tower Investments baby for 9 years now. He believes the Piazza with its plaza will change the way people feel about city living. Concerts and films are planned for almost every night this summer.

His development has been getting rave reviews from area residents.

"It's really like a big village now and we're really excited," said Tommy Updegrove.

Asia Dunn has lived in Northern Liberties for several years now and just moved into the Piazza.

"It's really, really amazing. When I first moved in this was just dirt and now it's altogether it's really cool."

The project is another step in Northern Liberties' revitalization, an area fast becoming a destination for the city's young, hip and trendy.

"You could spend a whole weekend here and never have to leave Northern Liberties," said Kate Meyer.
