New Castle Co. OKs ads on county Web site

The New Castle County Council has voted to allow paid advertising on the county's Web site. The council passed a resolution allowing paid advertising on the site Tuesday amid concerns about unfair endorsements of certain parties over others.

There were also concerns about whether it would hurt the Buy From Your Neighbor campaign, which encourages consumers, wholesalers, retailers and restaurants to buy Delaware-grown products.

County resident Martha Dennison says it could be an innovative way to bring in revenue for the county without raising taxes.

Councilman Bob Weiner cast the only dissenting vote, saying he was concerned about inferred favoritism even with the use of a disclaimer.
