Warning: I-76 could be a mess

Construction will cause problems on I-76 this weekend. 6abc.com TRAVEL LINKS:

Bridge Deck Construction will reduce the westbound lanes of I-76 from two to one lane between City Avenue and Belmont Avenue in Lower Merion. It was slated to start 10 p.m. Friday and last through 1 p.m. Saturday. And that's not all. The Eastbound lanes of I-76 will also be reduced to one lane approaching the South Street interchange (Exit 346A) from 8 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for bridge barrier reconstruction.

Last weekend the I-76 construction at South Street caused a 13 mile delay! Not helping the situation, you can't use some obvious alternates:

  • Martin Luther King Drive will be closed for recreation
  • Kelly Drive will be closed in both directions between Strawberry Mansion Drive and Fountain Green Drive due to the Stotesbury Regatta
You might want to take Ridge Avenue/Ridge Pike or Lancaster Avenue to avoid the massive congestion expected this weekend.

PennDot also suggests 676 East to I-95 S or 476 South to I-95 North.

The construction is weather dependant.
