NJ's Hope Creek nuke plant shut down

LOWER ALLOWAYS CREEK TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - May 19, 2009 The Hope Creek Generating Station is one of three nuclear reactors on Salem County's Artificial Island.

Plant operators took the action on Sunday after they saw that control rods that help with nuclear reactions were not going to the right places.

Inspectors then found damage that needs to be repaired before the plant can restart.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission says no one's safety was in danger.

The plant is owned by Public Service Enterprise Group.
