Officer hurt following bank robbery

NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA - May 19, 2009 - The bank robbery occurred around 1:15 p.m. at a Citizens Bank branch in the 9200 block of Frankford Avenue in the Northeast.

Officials report a man, who has not yet been identified, robbed the bank after presenting a demand note.

The male was given a dye pack before fleeing southbound on Frankford Ave in a blue vehicle.

After he fled, the dye pack exploded.

An officer in the city's Southwest section spotted the man and apprehended him in the 7800 block of Saturn Place, but not before the officer suffered a strained shoulder.

Exactly how that officer suffered the injury has not yet been released.

The officer was taken to Hahnemann Hospital for treatment.
