DALLAS, Tx. – May 19, 2009 Even hospital staff watched and read updates as surgeons retrieved the kidney for 3-year-old John Gilbreath from his father and transported it to the little boy at a children's hospital a few blocks away.
Amanda Gilbreath says reading "tweats" as they're called about what was going on with her husband and son gave her peace of mind.
"I knew when the kidney was pink, and warm. And that's not the kind of information you'd normally get on a phone call."
The surgeon says using Twitter also helps educate others about living donor kidney transplants.
