Peterson tried to put hit on wife, prosecutor says

JOLIET, Ill. - May 22, 2009 - Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow made the allegation at a hearing Friday on a request to reduce Peterson's $20 million bond. The request was denied.

Peterson is charged with murdering his third wife, Kathleen Savio. He's also a suspect in the 2007 disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson.

Glasgow says Peterson told a police officer in 2003 that he would be better off if Savio was dead because he would be financially ruined by a pending divorce. She was found drowned in her bathtub three weeks later, a gash to the back of her head.
