Child, firefighter hospitalized after blaze

NORTH PHILADELPHIA - May 23, 2009 The fire broke out at around 1:00 p.m. at an apartment complex on the 2400 hundred block of North 11th Street.

Heavy fire was reported on the second floor upon arrival.

According to the Deputy Chief on scene two people were injured at the scene- one child was transported to St. Chris Hospital for smoke inhalation and a fire fighter was also transported to an area hospital.

The condition of the firefighter is not known.

Fire crews got the upper hand of the fire just after 1:30 p.m.

The Red Cross is on scene assisting residents.

There is no word on what sparked the fire at this time.
