The 43-year-old homeowner said she had been attacked by her daughter's pit bull and the dog was blocking their escape from the upstairs of the home.
Animal control was called in to contain the pit bull.
The woman was severely bitten on the arm and is being treated at Hahnemann Hospital.
The victim told police the mauling happened when she tried to break up a fight between the pit bull and another dog. She also said the pit bull was under her care because it had bitten one of her daughter's neighbors.
She says her daughter was trying to find the dog a new home.
