Sisters hurt in NJ boat collision improving

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - May 26, 2009 A spokesman at Jersey Shore University Medical Center says 22-year-old Gina Franzino and 19-year-old Jamie Franzino, both of Mahwah, have been upgraded from critical to serious condition.

They were among five friends aboard a 15-foot skiff that collided with a 30-foot Boston Whaler on Friday night.

One man aboard the skiff - 24-year-old Kyle Tanis of Mahwah - was killed in the crash, while its operator and another passenger sustained minor injuries.

State police have not yet determined what caused the boats to collide on the north side of the river, between Point Pleasant Beach and Brielle.

Two men aboard the Boston Whaler were not injured.
