$200 and probation for ketchup

SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - May 27, 2009

Maybe $2?

A former school board trustee from Santa Ana, California has to pay about $200 in fines for stealing a bottle of ketchup from a college dining area.

And, he's been sentenced to two years of informal probation.

Steve Rocco was convicted of misdemeanor petty theft for stealing a 14-ounce bottle of ketchup from a Chapman University dining area.

He says he'll appeal.

He says authorities planted the ketchup near his bicycle to make it look like a theft when, really, he was just recycling the bottle.
