Man struck and killed by bus in Trenton

TRENTON, N.J. - June 1, 2009 The accident happened shortly after 11:00 at the intersection of South Broad and Market Streets.

Investigators say a Stout's Bus was traveling north on South Broad and making a left turn onto Market Street when the pedestrian was hit.

The victim died at the scene. He is only described as a 69-year-old Hispanic male from Quinton Avenue in Trenton.

It took emergency crews nearly two hours to remove the body from underneath the bus.

The bus driver, identified as 55-year-old John Matzer of Riverside, New Jersey, was taken to Capital Health System at Fuld for routine blood tests.

The bus involved in the accident is used to shuttle state employees between the court buildings and various parking lots. The bus holds 57 passengers, but was empty at the time of the accident.
