Judge puts 'Columbo' actor Falk in conservatorship

LOS ANGELES (AP) - June 1, 2009

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Aviva K. Bobb established a conservatorship for the 81-year-old actor Monday after a two-day hearing in Los Angeles.

Falk's adopted daughter, Catherine, had been seeking control over her father's care and revealed in court filings that he has dementia.

Catherine Falk cited a contentious relationship with Falk's wife of more than 30 years as a reason for the court battle. Bobb established court control over the actor's life primarily to ensure the daughter can visit her dad.

Falk planned for his health and financial care before his illness and said his wife, Shera, should be left in charge. He did not appear in court.
