Suspect wounded in Phila. police shooting

SOUTHWEST PHILADELPHIA - June 2, 2009

It all started around 5:30 Tuesday morning on the 1800 block of South 57th Street.

Two officers went to a house on the street, where police had received a call of a disturbance.

Shortly after the officers arrived, police say the suspect got into a fight with one of the officers.

The other officer pulled his gun and fired three shots at the suspect.

One bullet struck the suspect in the arm.

The suspect, a 46-year-old man, is being treated for the gunshot wound at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

The officer who struggled with the suspect is being treated at the hospital for an arm injury.
