Mrs. Fixit: Matchboxes and Matches

June 14, 2009

A smaller matchbox can be filled with a needle and thread or stamps for a little organizer on the go. Plus, if you snag a finger nail while you're out you can use the strike surface as a little nail file to buff it back.

Along those same lines, use that strike plate to sharpen utility knifes. Hold the blade at an angle and slide it in long strokes over the side of the box.

Speaking of utility knives, you can slide the blade of a knife into the thick part of a used match book to keep the blade from getting dinged or you from getting cut.

Use larger matchboxes in your workshop to organize little nails and screws. The boxes stack up and you can slide them out like little drawers.

Keep a matchbox in the laundry room to catch buttons and spare change.

As for those matches, cut the sulfur end of a wooden match and put it into a screw hole that has become too big, the match will give the new screw something to bite into.

Now those are some tips that should match your needs. I'm Mrs. Fixit and it's just that simple!
