Pennsylvania Democrats are giving a warm welcome to Arlen Specter as the state's senior senator spends quality time with the leaders of his new party in Pittsburgh. At a fundraising dinner Friday night, Governor Ed Rendell and Sen. Bob Casey presented the 79-year-old Specter with a Democratic donkey necktie to commemmorate his defection from the Republican Party in April.

Rendell hailed Specter's 29-year Senate voting record as proof of his commitment to Democratic priorities.

President Barack Obama, Rendell and Casey have all endorsed Specter's bid for a sixth Senate term. But many rank-and-file Democrats have expressed reservations about the more than four decades he spent as a Republican.

Specter is slated to make his first major speech to the Democratic State Committee on Saturday.
