Wilmington fire officials say a 10-year-old boy and a man who tried to help his neighbors get out of their burning home have been hospitalized. The fire broke out around 10 p.m. Sunday in the 1000 block of West Street.

Everyone got out before firefighters arrived, but the building sustained heavy fire, heat and smoke damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Officials say three adults and five children living at the home are staying with relatives. The boy was treated at A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children, and his 32-year-old neighbor was treated at Wilmington Hospital.
