Delaware State Police say a 56-year-old Maryland man killed in a motorcycle crash was not wearing a helmet. The crash occurred around 6 p.m. Tuesday on Double Bridges Road south of Millville.

Police say William Cole Jr. of Salisbury, Md., approached a sharp right curve at a high rate of speed on his Harley-Davidson and lost control.

The motorcycle crossed the center line, but police say Cole swerved to avoid an oncoming car and crossed back into the southbound lane before running off the road and hitting a tree.

Police say Cole was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say Cole was not wearing a helmet and it is not known if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
