Youth league gets donations after gear theft

Delaware State Police say a New Castle County youth football league has received thousands of dollars in donations since $15,000 in gear and equipment was stolen last month. A car dealership owner gave $5,000 and a sporting goods store offered the New Castle County Football League a store credit and donated athletic supplies.

Police say someone used a rollback tow truck on May 31 to steal a 20-foot long storage bin containing football gear, cheerleading uniforms and other supplies.

But league registrar Tara Walsh says the team won't have to cancel its championship games or award ceremony and trophy presentation. She says the donations mean the the season can start in August as planned.

Police are still looking for leads in the case.
