New Castle County police say a 39-year-old Newark man posed as a volunteer at a church carnival, then stole cash from the ticket booth. Police say John Vattilano took $1,300 from a ticket booth at the St. John the Beloved Catholic carnival Saturday night while posing as a volunteer.

On Monday, a Newport police officer volunteering at the St. Anthony's Catholic church carnival in Wilmington saw a man who matched the description of the suspect in the theft and Vattilano was arrested the next day when he returned.

No money was taken from the St. Anthony's carnival.
