Truck drags dog across road

VINELAND, N.J. - June 14, 2009 On Saturday night, a call was placed to 911 regarding a dog tied to the bumper of a pickup truck and subsequently being dragged across the street.

The witness reported seeing the dog being pulled behind a dark green pick-up truck with a cap over the cargo bed.

The driver was reportedly thought to be a male.

The truck was traveling east on Elmer Road in Vineland.

A homeowner on East Avenue found the dog on his front porch this morning and called Vineland Police.

The dog had apparently crawled onto the porch seeking protection.

Animal Control was dispatched to retrieve the dog and immediately transported her to the veterinarian. The dog is a female chocolate Pit Bull, approximately 1 ½ years old.

She suffered road abrasions to her right side and injuries to her face.

The pads and nails on her front paws were severely injured with some partially removed.

Her injuries are being treated and she will be recovering at the Cumberland County SPCA. She is expected to survive.

The Cumberland County SPCA is seeking help in finding the driver of the pick-up truck, who may or may not have known that the dog was tied to the bumper.

Anyone having information about the incident, please call the Cumberland County SPCA at (856)691-1500 or the Vineland Police Department at (856)794-4000.
