City worker shot in North Philadelphia

NORTH PHILADELPHIA - June 15, 2009 The woman, and some co-workers, were cleaning sewers in the 700 block of West Huntingdon when she was shot.

The worker who was hit is identified as Loretta Palmer, 55, who is employed by the Water Department.

It happened around 11:00 a.m. Monday.

"We didn't see nothing. We just heard the shots and started ducking," said co-worker William King.

"We turned around, we realized it was gunshots, we ducked, too," said co-worker John Perry.

After the shooting, investigators combed the area for clues, finding a half-dozen shell casings.

Palmer was taken to Temple Hospital and last reported to be in fair condition. She is expected to make a full recovery.

Police have no suspects in this shooting.
