Girl sues after 56 face tattoos

June 17, 2009 "I had asked the tattoo artist to place little stars close to my left eye but ended up leaving with 56 stars spread out across half of my face," Kimberley Vlaeminck, who says she fell asleep during the session and now wants to press charges.

Kimberley Vlaeminck's photo was splashed on the front page of popular daily Flemish paper Het Laatste Nieuws. Vlaeminck, who works as a cleaner, claimed the Romanian tattooist misunderstood her French and English.

In Belgium, it is mandatory for tattoo artists to have the customer sign a document in which the tattoo is described. Other tattooists are ticked off by the methods of their colleague. Kimberley does not want to show her face in public and wants to have the tattoos removed.

Belgian media have said Rouslan Toumaniantz, who runs the tattoo parlor called The Tattoo Box in Courtrai, denies her claim, saying she knew "exactly what she wanted".

"She was awake and looked into the mirror several times as the procedure was taking place," he is reported to have said. "The trouble all started when she went home and her father and boyfriend went crazy."
