6-year-old happy to be alive

READING, Pa. - June 17, 2009 Last week, the Riveras were visiting Blue Marsh Lake, not far from Reading, for some barbeque and a little swimming.

A friend was supposed to be watching Anthony, but it was an unidentified man who saw that something was wrong.

"He had gotten stuck in one of the buoys and the man pulled him out of the water," Jessica Whittemore said.

Anthony was not breathing.

Jessica quickly started performing CPR which she learned in high school some 20 years ago.

"I started rescue breathing. I guess it took several times, he began to expel water, and then he slowly started breathing. He wasn't conscious, but he started breathing," Jessica said.

Anthony did regain consciousness before the medical helicopter arrived and the first thing he saw was his mom.

"My mom was crying and running, running for me and fell on the floor on her knees and I said, 'Am I going to die?'" Anthony said.

Jessica was the one who told him, "No, you're not going to die."

And Anthony's mother, Maria, can hardly express her gratitude.

"She's a special person. She's his angel," Maria said.

And Anthony is grateful to be back safe in his mother's arms.

"Thank you for. Thank you nice lady," Anthony said.
