House impeaches federal judge from Texas

The House has impeached a federal judge from Texas for lying about the sexual assaults of two women. It was the House's first impeachment vote since it brought charges against President Bill Clinton in 1998. The vote Friday sets up a trial in the Senate on the impeachment charges against U.S. District Judge Samuel Kent.

Kent entered a federal prison in Massachusetts Monday to serve a 33-month sentence for lying about sexually assaulting two female employees.

Kent is refusing to resign until next year so he can draw his $174,000 a year salary while in prison. If he is convicted of the impeachment charges in the Senate, he will be forced out of office and his pay will be cut off.
