After 4 trials, 2 men get life for Boston murder

BOSTON (AP) - June 19, 2009 Quincy Butler was found guilty last week of first-degree murder and William Wood was convicted of second-degree murder after one mistrial and two hung juries.

A judge on Friday sentenced Butler to two consecutive life terms plus five years and sentenced Wood to life plus 20 years.

Prosecutors say the pair slashed the throat of 49-year-old Betsy Tripp after robbing her in 2004, then shot her boyfriend in the face and left him for dead when he tried to help her. The boyfriend barely survived.

Wood and Butler throughout their four trials had kept denying the charges.
