NJ man pleads guilty in DUI crash that killed cop

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) - June 23, 2009 Under a plea agreement with the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office, 24-year-old Sean McGuirk will face eight years in prison.

McGuirk admitted in court Tuesday that he spent four hours drinking at a Route 1 bar before getting in his car on Aug. 22.

At 3:30 a.m., he ran two red lights in Woodbridge, broadsiding the patrol car of Officer Thomas Raji, a 10-year police veteran whose wife was expecting their first child. A second officer and a prisoner they were transporting were injured.

Under the plea deal, a charge of aggravated manslaughter will be dropped.

Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 17.
