Making a career out of minding "monsters"

June 24, 2009 Animal lovers both, they decided to quit their positons and start a pet sitting company.

Today, /*The Monster Minders*/ has a dozen other full-time sitters. They serve more than 400 families and over 600 pets without going outside Center City.

A half-hour visit usually consists of a walk, plus water and feeding, and starts at $18.00. Minders are trained to handle pet health issues. They can administer insulin to diabetic cats, for example, and they can handle typical pet care emergencies like cleaning up. But these services cost extra.

The company also offers more-elaborate arrangements including house-sitting with your pet. You can reach The Monster Minders at (215) 925-1119 or go to their website http://www.themonsterminders.com. If you're looking for in-home pet care, experts agree you should carefully check references, and expect a service to be bonded and insured. After all, you're letting them into your house.

Beyond that, figure on arranging get-acquainted visits so your animal can get used to the care-giver as a friend, and to make sure your pet and the minder really get along.

To find pet care in other locations, you might ask your local SPCA or your veterinarian for a recommendation, or browse online.

Several of The Monster Minders' clients found them that way.
