There was an almost 5 minute standing ovation, the well respected but suddenly fired superintendent, Myra Forrest. Kids, parents and teachers stood and cheered.
But there was no such cheering for the board majority that last week, without notice, voted to terminate Forrest. That majority was blasted by most of the speakers Monday night.
The board's chairman, Edward Kerner, declined to say why he wanted Forrest fired.
Speakers questioned how the dismissal was legal and were irate it came last week without notice at just minutes before midnight.
Supporters of Forrest praised her for increased test scores and improved morale. The 1965 graduate of the district said she was overwhelmed by the support from the community.
